Doris May Basta, age 90, longtime resident of Hibbing died Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the Fairview University Medical Center in Hibbing. She was born January 20, 1924, in Duluth, MN, the daughter of Senia M. Madden. She graduated from Hibbing High School and then served in the US Navy in the Hospital Corps during WWII. She was united in marriage to Joseph D. Basta on July 25, 1967, at the Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia.
Doris Worked as a homemaker, and volunteered at Ironworld. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hibbing.
Doris is survived by three sons: Larry (Cynthia) Vance of Hibbing, Robert (Nellie McGinn) Vance of Hibbing, and Kevin Vance of Buhl; two sisters: Betty Nordstrom of Hibbing, and Shirley glad of Plymouth, MN; two grandchildren: Vanessa (Adam) Morse and Brandon (Malorie) Vance; four great-grandchildren: Jacob, Kayla, Ryan, and Rachel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband: Joseph in 2006; an infant granddaughter; a daughter-in-law: Sheryl Vance; and a brother-in-law: Lloyd Nordstrom.
