Donald Edwin Kvilvang, age 86, longtime resident of Hibbing died Sunday, April 2, 2017, in Grand Rapids with family at his side. He was born May 4, 1930, in Lake Park, MN, the son of Edwin and Ida (Zehms) Kvilvang. He graduated from Lake Park High School. A Veteran of the US Army, Don served during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Sharon Lea Ode on September 25, 1954, at the Immanuel Lutheran church in Audubon, MN.
Donald worked as Telecommunications Manager for AT&T/Northwestern Bell, and then was owner-operator of Don’s Electronics/Nortech Communications. He was a Member of Grace Lutheran Church in Chisholm and Hibbing where he served as president and elder, and a Life Member of the VFW. He enjoyed volunteering at the Hull Rust Mine View and was a past board member of the Lee Center, past Police Commissioner in Hibbing, and was Chief of Becker County Police Reserves from 1960-1968.
Don is survived by his children: Nancy (Robert) Weatherup of Minneapolis, Sheila Kvilvang of St. Paul, Susan (Jason) Taylor of Chisholm, and Joel (Cindy) Kvilvang of Grand Rapids; his sisters: Pat (Bill) Hodgson of Seattle, WA, Kathy Blacknik (Jim Clark), of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Pam (Herman) Washington of Seattle, WA; his brother-in-law: Don Solwold of Esko, MN; grandchildren: Jason (Michelle) McDonald, Janna Koestler, Joshua (Christina) Koestler, Lauren Taylor, Chad Taylor, DeAnna Kvilvang, Katie Jane Kvilvang, and Jordan Kvilvang; great-grandchildren: Addison McDonald, and Aiden McDonald; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Sharon (2014), his sister: Marlene; and brothers: Sidney and James.
