Mr. Thelen was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, K of C Coucil #2168, American Legion and the V.F.W. Post #4090 all in Portland. He was formerly on the Portland City Council and was a Ionia County Commissioner. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Raymond. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann; children Patricia Koenigsknecht, Thomas (Karen) Thelen, Denise (Jim) Anderton, Joseph (friend, Sharon Thelen) Thelen, Mary Frances (Don) Anderson, John (Lisa) Thelen; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings Martin Thelen, Marcella Rademacher, Clarence Thelen, Joan (Irwin) Miller, James (Helen) Thelen, Jerome (Arlene) Thelen; sister-in-law, Therese Thelen; many nieces and nephews.
