Don was a member of the MN National Guard, serving at Fort Ripley. He was united in marriage to Leslie Rose Hansen on May 20, 1961 in Eveleth. Don was employed by Jones & Laughlin Steel, working in several mines across the area. He also worked for the State of MN as a juvenile detention corrections officer in Rochester. He is best remembered for his position of Assistant Manager at Herberger’s both downtown and at the Mall.

He was Blessed to know his Savior, Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his adoptive father, Joseph Gustafson, biological father Theodore Wilen; and half brother and sister in law, Ted and Barb Wilen.
