Dolores M. Hyland went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 18, 2008. Dolores was born to Clarence and Blanche Wilbur on February 3, 1925 in Copemish, Michigan. She graduated from Ionia High School in 1943. She was married to Wayne Hyland for almost sixty-two years. She and Wayne lived the majority of their lives here in Portland. Dolores worked for Maynard-Allen State Bank for fifteen years. Known to many people as “Polly”, a nick-name given to her as a child by her father, she was loved by all who met her. She attended the Portland Congregational Church and used the many God-given gifts and talents to God’s glory for the church. She taught Sunday school and was a Deaconess for the church. She loved to paint and did many paintings that sill hang in the chuch today. Several years ago, she did a drawing of the church that was printed on tiles. Dolores fought a courageous battle with cancer and displayed the Grace of God thoughout her illness. Many of her nurses at Breslin Cancer Center were amazed at her strength. It was said of her that “if God placed one person on this earth to be an example, it was her.” Dolores was preceded in death by one sister, one brother, her parents and husband, Wayne. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Gary) Herp of Wellington, Florida, Marie Hyland-Willis of Justin, Texas, and Vicki (Bob) Weller of Portland, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
