Diana M. Warren
1951 – 2015
PORTLAND – Diana M. Warren, 64, of Portland died on December 31 at her home surrounded by the love of her family, more than three years after her diagnosis with brain cancer.
Diana Marie Myers was born in 1951 in Detroit, Michigan, eldest of six children of John and Phyllis (Gilbert) Myers. She grew up in Detroit during the turbulent 1960s before attending Central Michigan University, where she earned undergraduate and Master’s Degrees in Communication Disorders.
Diana moved to Bath, ME, after graduation and began a career as a Speech and Language Therapist. Over the next 35 years she worked in elementary schools in Bath, Gorham, and Portland, assisting students with learning disabilities and language development challenges. She particularly enjoyed working with children of families new to the U.S. at the Adams and East End Schools in the diverse Munjoy Hill community.
Diana was an active volunteer, serving as President of the Deering Center Neighborhood Association, organizing Halloween parades and window painting in the commercial district along Stevens Avenue, leading youth liturgies at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and organizing book and craft fairs at her children’s schools.
Diana is survived by her husband of 33 years; by their children Eliza and her husband James Giberson, Joseph, and Emma, all of Portland; by her mother-in-law Anne Warren of Portland; by her sister-in-law Sharon Crawford of South Portland and her family; by her “Maine mom” Eunice Fraser of Bath, and by her sisters and brothers John, Kathleen, Richard, Carolyn, and Phyllis, all of Michigan.
Diana’s family is deeply grateful for the care she received at Maine Medical Center, New England Cancer Specialists, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Hospice of Southern Maine as well as the loving support of friends and family as she confronted her disease.
