Obituary
Dennis A. Emge passed away on February 19, 2019 at the age of 84. He was the beloved husband of Alice J. Emge (Dove) of St. Paul, Missouri; He is survived by his seven children, Mel (Mary) Emge, Erwin (Janet) Emge, Linda (Tony) Shepherd, Dennis G. (Rita) Emge, Dolores (Bob) Jensen, Steve Emge, Noel (Nancy) Emge; brother, Robert (Judy) Emge; sister, Charlotte (Bill) Schneider; sister, Lucille Sommer; sister-in-law, Jackie Emge; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Oscar M. Emge; mother, Regina Emge (Molitor); brothers Bill Emge, James Emge, and Oscar Emge; sister, Sister Dolores Emge C.P.P.S.; brother-in-law, Bernard Sommer; sister-in-law, Helen Emge, and one grandchild, Ian Shepherd. Dennis was a self-employed auto mechanic for 45 years and an O’Fallon firefighter since 1973. He was rapidly promoted to captain and then to assistant chief in March 1976. He was voted O’Fallon Fire Protection District’s Firefighter of the Year in 1984. He resigned in January 1992. He also was elected to his first term on the District Board of Directors in 1978. He served as the President of the Board of Directors until his retirement from the Board in April 2008, after 35 years of service to the O’Fallon community. He was an inspiration to his fellow volunteer firefighters who often sought his opinions and counseling. Dennis served as a Board member of the St. Charles County Children and Family Services Authority from 2000 to 2004 and played an integral role in the passage of Proposition 1 in November 2004, which created a Community Children’s Services. He was the recipient of the Crider Center Heroes Award in 2001 for the exceptional leadership and volunteer role he displayed in the field of mental health for the County’s youth. Dennis was the recipient of the NAMI Tri-county 2004 Volunteer of the Year Award for his tireless efforts to promote the mental health needs of the youths residing in O’Fallon and St. Charles County. Today this fund provides mental health services to thousands of children and youth in St. Charles County. Dennis was also a member of the St. Paul Knights of Columbus. Although Dennis and Alice have seven children, they also found time to care for over twenty-five foster children and exchange students. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
