David John Stickney, age 66 of Eveleth died unexpectedly Tuesday, September 13, 2016. He was born September 16, 1949 in Virginia, the son of Paul Harold and Jean Miriam (Westby) Stickney. Dave grew up on Ely Lake, graduated from Eveleth High School, attended Bemidji State University, and married his High School sweetheart, Shelby Jean Omersa on August 26, 1972. They lived in Mankato for a brief period and returned home to purchase the Mesabi Sign Company in 1976. Shelby and Dave were inseparable; you would rarely see one without the other. They were very active in the area’s business communities and whole-heartedly supported local causes, events, and charities. They loved people; world travel; sunny, warm destinations; sports cars; their Range friends; their Highland Woods Community friends in Bonita Springs; and most especially, their family. Dave was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth, the Eveleth Elks Lodge, the Virginia Rotary Club, the Laurentian Chamber of Commerce, and was an avid golfer.
Dave is survived by his mother: Jean Stickney of Virginia; sisters: Paulette (Gerald) Bundich of Rice Lake, WI, Barbara (Larry) Olson of Aurora, and Debbie Poderzay of Mt. Iron; brother: Keith (Tammi) Stickney of Zimmerman, MN; brothers-in-law: Louis Omersa, Gene Omersa, and Lance Omersa all of Eveleth; the “kids” Jasmine and Bailey; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father: Paul Stickney, and brother-in-law: Bill Poderzay.
