Age 83, passed away on December 20, 2016. He was born on December 11, 1933, the son of Joseph and Laurina (Wirth) Hanses. David was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Joseph Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, Commercial Carpenter Local 1004, and the V.F.W. Post 3733, Fowler, Pewamo, and Westphalia. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. David was a master wine maker, skilled woodworker, and a life-long farmer. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Benjamin Hanses; brother, Reynold (Rosie) Hanses; brothers-in-law, Simon Smith, Robert Barker, and Reece Hattis; and in-laws, Louis and Hilda Thelen. David is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Kathryn “Kate” Hanses; children, Debra (Tony) Fedewa, Cindy (Tom) Coulter, Joe (Michele) Hanses, Mary Kay (Philip) Thelen, Bruce (Melissa) Hanses, Daniel Hanses, and Becky (Randy) Wellman; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; siblings, Revella Smith, Kathleen Barker, Dorothy Hattis, and Liz (Bob) Spitzley; in-laws, Sr. Donna Jean Thelen O.P., Jim (MaryAnn) Thelen, Donna (Phil) Kramer, Tony (Maryann) Thelen, Bill (Diane) Thelen, Bonnie (Bob) Pearson, and Sue Thelen.
