David F. Hagen passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at his son’s home in Fargo under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
He was born on October 22, 1942 in Glenwood, Minnesota to Frederick and Linnea (Lofsted) Hagen. He was raised in Farwell, Minnesota and graduated high school in Glenwood, MN in 1960. He entered the Air Force in June of 1960 and served four years as an aircraft weapons mechanic stationed in George Air Force Base, California. He also served rotations in Spain, Germany, Washington and Nevada, crossing the Atlantic Ocean four times.
In June of 1964 he entered into marriage to Kathleen J. Kunz in Alexandria, Minnesota. Their first home was in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He attended the Medical Institute of Minnesota. He worked as a Lab-x-ray tech from 1965 until 1967 in Benson, Minnesota. He became Department Head of Lab in Warren, Minnesota from 1967 to 1973. It was during this time he began attending the Study program at the University of Minnesota in Health Care administration. In 1973 he became the administrator of the A. L. Vadheim Memorial Hospital in Tyler, and then in 1978 became administrator of the St. Joseph Hospital in Baudette, Minnesota. In 1982 he accepted the position of administrator of the Roseau Area Hospital District in Roseau, Minnesota serving in that capacity until 2004 when he retired. He was member of Jaycees, Kiwanis, Rotary and Lions Clubs.
Kathleen and David had two wonderful children, Stephanie and Mark. Stephanie (John) Horner live in Warroad, MN and Mark (Julie) Hagen live in Fargo ND. They have two grandchildren, Amanda and Samantha Hagen; step-grandchildren, Darcy Poole, Shane Horner and five step great-grandchildren.
