David Burton Carlson, age 87, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Friday, September 6, 2013, in the Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. He was born March 23, 1926, in Hibbing the son of Charles M. and Nellie C. (Swanson) Carlson. He graduated from Hibbing High School. A veteran of WWII, David served in the US Navy aboard the USS Tatnuck. David was united in marriage to Olivia Marie Schroeder on June 19, 1954, in Floodwood, MN.
David’s career was as a Stationary Engineer at the Hibbing High School. He had also worked for the Oliver Mining Co., and as a soda jerk at the Androy Hotel. He was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Hibbing. David enjoyed the outdoors, and spent countless hours cutting wood.
David is survived by his wife: Olivia; four daughters: Marlys (Dwight) Dague of Cherry, MN, Charlotte (Stanley) Surridge of Everett, WA, Loretta (Jeff) Arts of Bemidji, MN, and Alice (Mike) Olds of Zim, MN; nine grandchildren: Charity (James) Hallmark, Krista (David) Carlson, Brad (Andrea) Arts, Renee (John) Smith, Holli (Mike) Litrenta, David (Cally) Arts, Jessica Olds, Greg Olds, and Kaci Olds; nine great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Levi, Oliver, Sedona, Emerson, Mya, Elias, Max, and Alyenna; a sister: Bernice Englund of International Falls, MN; and a sister-in-law: Joan Carlson of Hibbing.
He was preceded in death by his parents: his brother: Malcolm; and sisters: Ruth, Harriet, and Hedvig.
