Danny F.
Danny Fredrick Basher was born on March 7, 1955, in Fargo, ND, to Kenneth and Delores (Erbstoesser). He was raised in Fargo and Coon Rapids, MN, until 1966, when he moved to Grafton, ND. After high school, Danny studied Auto Mechanics. In 1972, Danny enlisted in the Unites State Marine Corps. He served for three years in Okinawa, Japan and El Toro, CA. Following his honorable discharge, he met Karen Voytilla with whom he eloped to Webster, SD: they were married on March 19, 1976. The couple lived in Hibbing briefly and then moved to Thief River Falls, MN where they would make a home for twenty years and raise their two daughters. Danny was a salesman with Kirby Vacuum, worked on a mink farm, and spent over a decade as a salesman at Northern Motors.
With a desire to pursue his passions more closely, Danny and Karen moved to Baudette. It was there that he was able to hunt more frequently with his dogs, and fish regularly in any season. He didn’t stop working, however, as he became owner of two businesses: Freddie’s Mini Storage and Fred’s Beds, both in Baudette. He was a Merchant Marine Officer on Lake of the Woods for 15 years and was a longtime member of both Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Karen; daughters, Valerie (David Sandahl) Basher of Williams, MN, and Lisa Basher of Baudette; two grandchildren, Danika and Vada Sandahl; siblings, Cheryl (William) Green, Karen (John) Kramer, Kevin Basher, Mechelle (Andy) Komanetz, and Melanie (John) Mients; nieces and nephews; many, many friends; and his faithful hunting buddy, Curly.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons, John and Jason; a brother, Mike; his parents; two nephews and a niece; and a number of aunts and uncles.
MILITARY HONORS: USMC Honor Guard; Warren America Legion, Post #27.
