Daniel V. O’Brien, 95, of Westphalia passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014. Dan was born July 12, 1918 in Mt. Pleasant, MI to Alonzo and Catherine (Swift) O’Brien. On December 2, 1950, Dan married the love of his life, Dorothy Arens and together they celebrated over 63 years of marriage. Dan and Dorothy had five children; Janice (Paul) Arsenault, Sharon, Jerry (Denise), Dave (Leanne) and Joe (Kathy) and grandchildren Chris (Beth) and Brad Arsenault, Marisa, Leah, Garrett, Natalie and Shawn O’Brien. Dan was a proud member of the United States Armed Forces, served as a marksman in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He owned and operated United Cleaners in Lansing for many years until his retirement. He was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus Westphalia Council #2890, a member of the St. Joseph’s Society, and a member of the V.F.W. Fowler Westphalia Pewamo Post #3733. Dan enjoyed bowling, playing cards, gardening, and socializing with neighbors and friends. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Along with his wife Dorothy, children, and grandchildren, Dan is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
