Westbrook – Daniel T. Shirley, 66, formerly of Longfellow Street, Westbrook, died Monday March 31, 2014 at the Springbrook Center with his family by his side.
Born in Westbrook on May 11, 1947, he was a son of Clifford and Mable Girard Shirley. Dan graduated from Westbrook High School in 1966. Following graduation, he joined the Airforce. While at Loring Airforce Base, he met Julie Hewitt and they married. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1977. He later met Geraldine Douglass Mains. During their marriage they enjoyed going to their camp, playing cards and going to Foxwoods to play the slots, but their marriage ended in 2010.
Dan loved to fish and wood working.
Dan was predeceased by his parents and his brother in law Marvin Petersen.
He is survived by a daughter Denise Sadowsky and her husband Brian of Gorham, a son Keith Shirley and his wife Jennifer of Windham and stepson Raymond Mains of Wells. His two sisters, Donna Plummer and her husband Mark of Windham and Dorothy Petersen and her husband Gerry of Westbrook and his ex-wife Geraldine Shirley of Gorham.
Dan is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ethan and Brandon Sadowsky, Hannah, Ivy, Coleman and Austin Shirley, Autumn Mains and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dan’s friend Pat Allen for her help with Dan when he was at home and the wonderful staff at the Springbrook Center for the great care they gave him.
