Daniel P. Ivkovich, Sr., 93, of Laytonsville, Maryland, suffered a stroke on June 13th and died at home peacefully in the presence of his loving wife on July 4th 2014. Born in McKeesport, PA on February 27, 1921, he was the youngest son of Peter and Mary (Kusic) Ivkovich. A proud and decorated veteran of World War II, he was a Tech Sergeant in the United States Army assigned to C Battery, 357th FA 84th Infantry “Railsplitters” Division where he participated and fought in numerous European campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was active in organizing and participating in “Railsplitter” reunions until his last year. He was a budget analyst with the U.S. Department of Defense until his retirement. Most of his time was devoted to his family and especially his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He participated in numerous sporting events including senior softball and golf. He was a devoted Redskins fan since he moved to the Washington area after World War II.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marion E. Ivkovich of Laytonsville. He is survived by one daughter, Roxanne Frank and son-in-law Gary of Cheverly, MD, and two sons, Daniel P. Ivkovich, Jr. and daughter-in-law Diana of Fairfield, OH, and David B. Ivkovich and daughter-in-law Laura of Clarksburg, MD. Daniel is survived by his grandchildren – Julia K. McGlamary and husband Kevin of Gaithersburg, MD, Joseph Frank of Cheverly, MD, Austin Ivkovich and wife CJ of Fairfield, OH, Nick Ivkovich of Fairfield, OH, and Craig Walkley of Rockville, MD. He is survived by one sister, Louise Zivkovich of McKeesport, PA. He was preceded in death by his brothers Burke and Nick and his sister Mildred.
