Daniel “Dan” Lastovich, Jr., age 84, a lifelong resident of Hibbing went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 21, 2015 in the Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 16, 1931 in Hibbing, the son of Daniel and Ella (Crnkovich) Lastovich, Sr. Dan was a graduate of Hibbing High School and the University of Minnesota – Duluth with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He was employed as a cost accountant for US Steel Minntac for over 34 years, retiring in 1992. On June 18, 1988, Dan married Leota B. Smith in Hibbing. Dan attended the Chisholm Baptist Church, and lived his life in service to the Lord in any manner he could. He was an avid runner, played basketball for Hibbing Community College, liked fishing, did a little hunting, played horseshoes, and played golf in his retirement years. Dan enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, and working in the yard. He actively loved his family, playing with his grandkids, loving his wife and children, and laughing a lot.
Dan is survived by his wife: Leota; children: Steve (Stephanie) Lastovich of Cushing, MN, Jeff (Janice) Lastovich of Rice Lake, WI, Sandy (Richard) Larson of Hibbing, Lisa (Andy) Stone of Cushing, Gordon (Barbara) Smith of Hibbing, Bev (Chris) Carey of Moorhead, MN, David “Scott” (Kristin) Smith of Austin, TX, and Lee (Eva) Lastovich of White Bear Lake, MN; 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson: Corbin Lastovich; siblings: Peter, Emil, Rudy, Celia Stornick, Mary Russ, Helen Wauzynski and Anne Wauzynski.
