Daniel F. Buschmann, 78, of Hermann, died Sunday, December 29, 2013. He was born to the late Louis and Alma (Schneider) Buschmann on January 13, 1935 in Bay Missouri.
Dan graduated from Hermann High School in 1953. He attended the University of Missouri and then served in the Army from 1957-1959. While in the Army Dan was a skilled marksman and served on the Army’s sharpshooter unit mainly in Germany.
Dan married Patricia Keller in 1961 and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2011. In 1962, Dan and Pat took over Mid Missouri Office Machines, a local business machines and office supply store in Hermann. The business became the area’s first authorized Canon office products dealer and eventually grew to three locations in Hermann, Washington and Union. Over the years the business received numerous awards and recognitions from Canon, Remington-Rand and others for achievments in sales and volume. This success translated into Dan receiving incentive trips that included Europe, Hawaii and Venezuela. In 1967, Dan formed the committee that eventually founded and created the Hermann Country Club. As a lifelong member of the County Club, he was an avid golfer in his spare time. Dan was also politically active in the local area. He served two terms as a Hermann City Alderman and ran for the district State Rep seat in 1982. He also served as the Gasconade County campaign coordinator on many of Senator Kit Bond’s election campaigns. Dan was a member and former President of the Hermann Jaycees. As a Jaycee, he was recognized with the group’s prestigious Outstanding Young Man of the Year Award. Dan also served twice as the President of the Hermann Lions Club and a single term as the group’s District Governor. As District Governor, Dan represented the group locally at the Lion’s worldwide convention in Sidney Australia in 2010. Towards the end of his life, Dan was a member of the Hermann Community Chorus.
Dan is survived by his wife Patricia and two children, Keith Buschmann of Superior Colorado and Susan Boley (nee Buschmann) of Chandler, Arizona. He is survived by two sisters, Leora Scheer of Hermann and twin sister Doris Meyer of Linn Creek, Missouri. He is also survived and blessed by five granddaughters, Erica, Miranda, Vanessa, Katelyn and Lindsey and step-grandson Michael.
