Conrad Pietruszewski, 74, of Karlstad, MN, formerly of rural Strandquist, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at his home.
Conrad Michael was born on February 24, 1948 in Warren, MN, the son of Felix and Theresa (Kasprowicz) Pietruszewski. He was raised on the family farm as one of eight children, and graduated from Stephen High School in 1966. Following graduation, Conrad attended UND and enlisted in the US Army. While serving his country, Conrad was sent to Vietnam where he was engaged in a score of firefights. He flew 25 aerial missions, earned a bronze star, and witnessed both the bravery and the brutality of war. Coming back to the states in 1970, he struggled with what he’d experienced but found a good outlet in hunting, trapping, fishing, and being in nature. He trapped over 400 beavers in the area, and he also enjoyed reloading shells and competitive shooting (he was a superb marksman).
He completed his degree in accounting at UND and worked as an accountant in Minneapolis for a few years after the war. He made a career in construction and worked for Wanzek in Fargo for almost 15 years. Conrad moved to Thief River Falls, later Strandquist, and Karlstad after that, using his skill at carpentry in each town.
A quiet man who remembered nearly everything he read; from religion to politics to baseball: Conrad was a wealth of knowledge to those who knew and loved him.
He will be greatly missed by his family; siblings, Maxine (Gordon) Pagnac, Gordon (Delphine) Pietruszewski, David (Janice) Pietruszewski, Terry (Betty) Pietruszewski, Denise (John) Lund, Myron (Kris Ann) Pietruszewski, and Wendell (April) Pietruszewski; and many nieces and nephews.
Conrad was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Theresa.
