Clarence John Meyer, 92, of New Haven, Missouri, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at New Haven Care Center.
Mr. Meyer was born in New Haven, Missouri on September 26, 1921, the son of the late Louis F. and Bertha L. (Hoemann) Meyer.
He attended Miller and New Haven Elementary Schools. He attended New Haven High School one year then he stayed home four years to help save the family farm. He then later completed his high school education in two years. He also completed a forestry course from Cornell University and an agriculture course from the University of Missouri.
He was the husband of Margaret “Peggy” (LaBoube) Meyer. They were married July 17, 1971 at St. Paul Church, Berger, MO. Peggy survives in New Haven.
Clarence is also survived by a daughter Jane Ruth Kanning & husband William of St. Charles, Missouri, by two grandsons Thomas & David Kanning both of O’Fallon and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, by his first wife Ruth (Scheer) Meyer. They were married September 12, 1950, she preceded him in death on April of 1956, by a brother Roy J. Meyer and three sisters Lillian Meyer, Carrie Helling and Nelda Meyer.
Clarence was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Washington, Missouri. He farmed from 1936 to 1956 raising alfalfa hay and hogs. After that be became a performance supervisor with the U.S. Dept of Agriculture at the Frankiln County ASCS office in Union, Missouri. With this work he became acquainted with all farmers in the county which he treasured very much. Later he also sold real estate in the local area.
