Clara Mae McCarter Wisdom, age 76, of Steelville, Missouri was born to Roy R. and Lola Pearl (Warren) McCarter on Saturday, April 2, 1932 in Bunker, Mo and passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla following a nine month battle with cancer, accompanied by heart disease. Clara and her husband of 60 years, Cleatis E. Wisdom, son of Sarge and Pearl Wisdom, were united in marriage on March 20, 1948.
Clara Wisdom exemplified the Proverbs 31 woman. Her role in life was to take care of the people she loved. As Cleatis said “there will never be another like her.”
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Family members who remain to mourn her passing include her husband Cleatis E. Wisdom of the home in Steelville; one son, Denzel R. Wisdom of Steelville, MO; two daughters, Donna Missey and husband Frank of Steelville, MO and Sharon Thurman and husband Larry of Carol Stream, IL; twelve grandchildren, Denzel Ray Wisdom, Jr. and wife Rachel, Justin Wisdom and wife Stephanie, Linda Wisdom, Richard Wisdom, Michelle Wisdom, Jonathan Wisdom, Michelle Missey, Gina Saunders and husband Richard, Joy Shoemaker, Frankie Missey and wife Carrie, Matt Thurman and Heather Carlin and husband Bryan; thirteen great-grandchildren, Chelsey Wisdom, Britni Wisdom, Tyler Wisdom, Tristan Gleason, Isaiah Gleason, Brandon Wisdom, Brianna Wisdom and Kianah Wisdom, Colton Missey, Makylah Shoemaker, Hallie Boulch, Paige Missey and Payton Missey; one sister, Lucy Evans of Steelville, MO; three brothers-in-law, Lowell Wisdom and Rondall Wisdom and wife Sue all of Bunker, MO, Jimmy Wisdom and wife Cleo of Byrnesville, MO; five sisters-in-law, Marie McCarter of Fenton, MO Shirley Callahan of New Florence, MO, Rosa Lee Kurta of Ventura, CA and Ruthine Gober and husband John of O’Fallon, MO, and Berniece Wisdom of Ellington, MO, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant son, Larry Eugene Wisdom; three brothers, Ervin, Edgar, Everett McCarter and wife, Mamie; five brothers-in-law, John Evans, Lester and Lloyd Wisdom, Dale Callahan and one infant; four sisters-in-law, Darlene Wisdom, Berthal Wisdom, Carrie Wisdom and Dalena Wisdom.
Clara enjoyed watching Cleatis bowl, being wherever he was, fishing, quilting, canning, cooking, but most of all having her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren around her to love and care for. Clara was a member of the First Baptist Church of Steelville. She gave her heart to Christ as a young woman, then followed Him in believer’s baptism in July 1995, when both she and Cleatis were baptized.
