Chi Duc Nguyen, a resident of Silver Spring, MD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2017, at Holy Cross Hospital. He was 76 years old. Chi was born on May 01, 1941, in Nam Dinh (Hanh Thien) Vietnam and was the son of the late Chinh Duc Nguyen and Minh-Khanh Dang.

Throughout his life, Chi Duc Nguyen always remained focused and diligent with his studies and had reached many academic achievements. He graduated from the Civil Engineering College, National Technology Center in Saigon with a Civil Engineering Degree in 1963. He then went on teach as a professor at the Civil Engineering College. Chi subsequently received his Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO in 1966. He attended a year-long engineering seminar at the Lausanne University in Switzerland in 1970. In 1971, he was elected as the Director of the Civil Engineering College. He immigrated to the United States in 1978, where he met, fell in love with, and married his wife, Hongvan Nguyen, in 1981. He obtained both his professional engineering (PE) and structural engineering (SE) licenses and was dedicated to his work at Henningson, Durham, Richardson, Inc for over two decades. Chi retired in 2008 and traveled often domestically and internationally to Europe, Australia, and Asia. He was an avid reader, meditated often, and was a life-long learner. Chi was also hardworking, intelligent and caring, always wanting to help others in any way possible. He was a loving husband and a devoted father to two children, supporting them in all their endeavors.

Chi is survived by his beloved wife, Hongvan Nguyen of Silver Spring, MD; two loving children,  Tuan Nguyen of Silver Spring, MD and Tu Nguyen of Silver Spring, MD; three devoted sisters; Kim-Chuong Nguyen of Vietnam, Hiep-Doan Nguyen of Viet Nam and Bao-Hoa Nguyen of Maryland. Along with his parents, Chi was preceded in death by his sister, Kim-Huy Nguyen.
