Cheryl Tompkins (Auntie) unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia. She was 74 years old. Auntie spent 37 years teaching at Phoenix Multicultural Academy. She will always be remembered for having a book on her marble living room table and bookshelves filled throughout her house. She was always reading something. Aside from reading and watching her favorite TV shows (House Hunters, Dancing with the Stars, Big Brother, and The Bachelor), she always talked about her three grand nieces. She was always on the sidelines at her grand niece’s sporting events, cheering them on, no matter the weather or location. She was their biggest supporter. Her love and unwavering support that she poured into them and everyone she encountered never went unnoticed.
Auntie enjoyed going to the movies, swimming at her community pool with her family and friends during the summer months, watching the Detroit Tigers and the MSU Spartans on T.V., and going to craft shows with her friends. She was known for cooking her pumpkin pies and phenomenal stuffing during every holiday season for the family Thanksgiving party. Auntie always made time for others before herself. She always kept up with her hair appointments and never forgot anyone’s birthday no matter how far away they lived. She dog sat for her niece’s dog while the family went away although she wasn’t so fond of animals. But she did it anyway because she knew it would be helpful.
Auntie had a powerful impact on every person that she encountered. From a schoolteacher to an aunt, or a friend, she was a positive light in our lives that will always be remembered as a gentle soul. We feel lost without her but are grateful that we had a chance to be by her side comforting her in her final moments. There is no doubt in our minds that she is in Heaven with the rest of her family who have already crossed over, but we know that she is looking down on the rest of us, protecting and guiding us. She will never be forgotten. May she rest in paradise. We love you auntie.
