Charles “Charlie” Raymond Jones, Sr., 77, of Cuba, MO, formerly of Steelville, MO passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born August 30, 1931 to Chester and Irene (Simmons) Jones in Benton, MO. On November 22, 1952, he was married to Alyce Stroud who preceded him in death on November 19, 1991.
He will be sadly missed by his one son, Charles R. Jones, Jr. and companion Ron Hovis of St. Louis, MO; seven daughters, Pam Steffen and husband Paul of Lebanon, TN, Barbara Jones Dotson, Sandra Hardin, Robin Stark and husband Bruce, Karen Jackson and husband Rick and Tracy Greenwalt and husband Rodney all of Cuba, MO and Teal Turnbough and husband Jerry of Steelville, MO; two brothers, Alvin Backus and wife Rita of Linn, MO and Herbert Holubeck and wife Linda of Salem, MO; one sister, Revella Kasprzyk and husband Joseph of Jacksonville, IL; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Alyce Jones.
Charlie served his country in the U.S. Marines.
In his earlier years, he played Triple A baseball for the Cacti League during a 1951 season.
Charlie enjoyed fishing, listening to baseball games, woodworking and most of all his “family.
