He grew up in Portland and was a member of the Cathedral School Boys Choir under Monsignor Boltz.
Charles worked for thirteen years for the Grand Trunk Railroad and then for the Local 12 Labor Union and Local 327 until his retirement. He was president of Local 12 for many years. He was also a member of the Sahara Club for the past 27 years.

Hoffman (McLaughlin), Kelly Yattaw (McLaughlin) and her husband Charles and son Christopher McLaughlin, his ten grandchildren, Matthew Crawford, Rachel Crawford, Alexander Hoffman, Nathaniel Hoffman, Elizabeth J. Yattaw, Andrew Yattaw, Michael Yattaw, Victoria McLaughlin, Christopher McLaughlin and Jacob McLaughlin as well as many nieces and nephews and his ex-wife and friend, Mildred McLaughlin. His is also survived by his brother Robert McLaughlin and his wife Carol.
Special thanks to his dear friend, Patrick Conley, who chauffeured our dad to meetings at the Sahara Club, plus the hundreds of people whose lives touched his during his wonderful 82 years. He didn’t die rich in wealth, but in his friends and loved ones, he died a billionaire. He was his daughters hero: the smartest, strongest and kindest man in the world.
Also a special thanks to the staff who worked with our dad at the Cedars and Gosnell to help make his journey a peaceful one.
