Catherine M. Peaco Hillson, 86 of Scarborough passed peacefully on September 24, 2013 at the Gosnell Memorial House. Catherine was born in New Gloucester on January 11, 1927, the daughter of Valentine and Laura Hall.
Growing up on the family farm she sometimes commuted to school via Horse and Buggy. She graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1944 as Valedictorian of her class.
After High School, she married Wilbur Peaco of New Gloucester, and together they had one daughter, Elizabeth (Libby) Peaco Greenleaf. They were married for 19 years until his death in 1965. Together they owned Peaco`s Variety at Dunstan Corner in Scarborough.
Catherine later married Leland Hillson on December 31, 1966. For over 20 years they ran Hillson’s Market at Oak Hill in Scarborough, serving pizza, Italian sandwiches and convenience items. Many a high school student jumped the fence at lunch time for the “Best Italian in Town”.
