Catherine A. (White) Walls, 93, of Portland passed away on January 3, 2016. She was born in Portland on March 17, 1923, a daughter of Charles and Katherine (Mulhern) White. Catherine grew up in Portland, was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, graduated from Portland High School in 1942 and later the Maine School of Commerce.
Catherine worked for many years at the Maine Central Railroad in the auditor of disbursement office. It was there that she met the man she would marry, Blair Walls. They were married at St. Joseph’s Church on September 11, 1950 and were married for 61 years until his passing in 2011. Catherine later worked for the Portland Water District until her retirement in 1984.
Catherine enjoyed music, dancing, interior decorating, cooking and flower gardening. She also loved traveling with her husband. They took trips to Canada to see Blair’s family twice a year until he was no longer able to travel and they also spent 14 winters in Perrish, Florida.
Catherine was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her six siblings: Eileen White, Natalie (Brown), Mary (Guilmette), Maurice White, Charles White and John White. She is survived by her niece, Cathy Clark and her husband Tom of California as well as her dear and close friends, Ann and Anthony Wedge of Portland and Ann Cobb of Gray.
Catherine wanted to express her thanks to the staff and nurses at the Park Danforth in Portland for their care and compassion during her time there as well as Ann and Anthony Wedge for taking such good care of her.
