Carole Jean was born at home in Damascus, MD on August 13, 1947, and resided in Damascus her entire life.

She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Martha & Ray Luhn and her maternal grandparents, Emily & Noah Ifert, whom she especially adored.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, C. Richard “Dickie” McAlister, Damascus, her two children, Cathy (George) Magas, Damascus, and Ricky (Jill) McAlister, Mount Airy, along with her six adored grandchildren, Marc (Ali), Nick, Eric, & Alec Magas, and Abbey & Leslie McAlister and one great-grandchild, Cade Magas. She is also survived by her three loving sisters– June (Alvin) Pearce, Paulette (George) Cramer, and Patti Haegele, as well as many nieces & nephews and great-nieces & nephews.

Carole attended Damascus High School, graduating with the Class of 1965.  She was Class Secretary, a cheerleader, and a member of the 4-H and Drama Clubs.  She was an excellent typist and short-hand subscriber and therefore, after graduation, secured a position at The Atomic Energy Commission before becoming a stay-home mom.

At the young age of 28, she & her husband started their own orthodontic supply company in Gaithersburg, MD in 1975.  Even though it was a struggle in the beginning, they persevered and made it into a successful family business that has many long-term employees to this day.

Carole loved animals, including her special pets over the years–Inky, Muffin, Benson, Brandy, and Bella.
