Carol was born on Christmas day 1954 in Salisbury, MD, thus her name ‘Carol’. Mrs. Farquharson was the daughter of Kathleen (Kitty) E. Bledsoe and the late Vernon T. Bledsoe. She grew up in Denton, MD, graduating from North Caroline High in 1972. She received her nursing training at Warwick College in 1980, equipping herself to fulfill her dream of becoming an operating room nurse with a passion for heart surgery. Carol worked for 30+ years in area operating rooms at St. Mary’s, Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center, Parkwest Ambulatory Surgery Center, Baptist Regional and UT Hospital. She was working for Campbell, Cunningham, and Taylor Eye Surgeons at the time of her death. Carol also completed an on-line course of study and became certified as a legal nurse consultant.
Carol was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and grandmother. She was a longtime active Friend of Bill W., having made scores of lifelong friends locally. She was fond of saying, ‘I have two million friends around the world that I just haven’t met yet’. Frequently she willingly served as an ‘ad hoc’ advocate and advisor for her friends and their families on their medical questions, earning her the nickname ‘Dr. Fark-a-son’ among her closest friends. She was always doing for and thinking of her friends and family as she frequented her ‘circuit’ of thrift stores around the area. Every day she seemed to have a new gift for one of her children or grandchildren. She loved to garden, especially taking pride in her wide variety of red, yellow and white roses. She loved the water in all forms, especially her backyard pool blanketed in sunshine. Both Carol and George would spend hours at the beach searching for ‘treasures’ while their two dogs, BB and Butter, played in the surf. She had a special place in her heart for her nap buddy, Seymour the cat.
Carol is preceded in death by her father: Vernon T. Bledsoe; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Lois Ann Farquharson; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Carol is survived by her mother, Kathleen Bledsoe of Denton, MD; husband, George Farquharson of Knoxville, TN; daughter, Jessica Smith and husband Matt of Knoxville; son Nathan Farquharson and wife Ashlie of Knoxville; daughter Courtney Farquharson of Johnson City; grandchildren, Paisley Jayne Farquharson (age 4), John Lawrence Smith (age 18 months), and a grandchild due in June; brother, V. Travis Bledsoe, Jr. and wife Charlene of Denton, MD; and a niece and nephew, J. Tyler Bledsoe and L. Kendall Killian, both of Denton, MD. Many children called her ‘Mimi’ and she considered them her grandchildren. She had a special place in her heart reserved for Olivia, Issac, Belle, Lilith, Keatley, and Jonathan plus any and all others that came through her and George’s home.
