A Korean War Veteran, he served in the U S Navy, from 1951 to 1955.  He was assigned to the USS PTARMIGAN AM-376.  A naval ship used for the dangerous task of removing mines from mine fields laid in the water to prevent ships from passing.  During his military service he received several medals and citations.

He retired with Jitney-Jungle, after 30+ years of service, as an over the road driver.

For 40+ years, he enjoyed being an active Deacon, an avid Sunday School teacher and on occasion, a substitute when the pastor was unavailable at both Center Terrace Baptist Church and most recently Fellowship Christian Assembly of Canton, MS.

In April of 2023, he was presented his 60-year Masonic Anniversary Lapel Pin from the Canton Masonic Lodge.
