Carl Norjore, the son of Bergit (Kallock) and Even Norjore was born on May 8, 1910 and lived in Stokes Township near the original homestead his father settled in 1895. He and his brother Haakon lived with their parent east of Badger until 1918 when they moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. They moved back to Roseau area in 1920 where they cleared land in Stokes Township to farm. He and Haaken also spent time working in North Dakota farming on the farm of Willie Bergdahl, their future brother-in-law. In 1930 they put up a saw mill and built their home, granary, and sheds from native lumber they cut, sawed and cured.
They worked hard, but always had time for fun. They enjoyed going to the bowery dances on the Fourth of July at Fox, and the county fair. They enjoyed music, and Carl learned from his father how to make violins. He enjoyed woodworking and farming very much. Carl was also very interested in his Norwegian Heritage and traveled to Norway in 1964. He was a member of the Opdahl Church in Badger until its closing, and now of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Badger.
Carl Norjore passed away on Saturday, October 15 at the Greenbush Nursing Home. He was 95 years old.
Carl is survived by his niece Leanne (Keith) Johnson of Roseau, nephew John (Randi) Gaukerud of Badger; great nieces Jennifer Robb, Roxanne Johnson, Anna Gaukerud, and Sara Gaukerud and great-nephews Eric Johnson and Carl Gaukerud. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Anne Bergdahl and Mary Gaukerud, and brother Oliver and Haakon.
