Carl Leo Ditmars

July 20, 1937

April 6, 2014

Scarborough – Carl Leo Ditmars entered eternal peace on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Carl was born July 20, 1937 in Imogene, Iowa to William and Lillian Crow Ditmars and was one of nine siblings. As a determined young man he set off from the corn and grain that he came to know so well to the sea to join the Coast Guard; where later he became a Chief Warrant Officer 3rd Class.

During his time in the Coast Guard he met Eleanor Bryson Duran, they married and had five children together. Carl and Eleanor both retired in Portland, Maine where together they spent the rest of their life close to their children and raising their grandchildren near the ocean. He was a father, brother, grandfather and great husband and as his family we believe that out of all the things he had done with his life his family were one of his proudest triumphs. The bravery mustered up from that farm boy determined the rest of his life. The bravery never left him and the love he showed his family hasn’t either.

Carl is now reunited with his wife, Eleanor Ditmars as well as his parents and sisters Wanda Linke Miller and Rita Taylor . His spirit is carried on by his five children and their families. Son Carl Ditmars (his wife Elizabeth, their son Derek and daughter Michelle Mark (her husband Joshua and their children Mae And Jackson) ), daughter Karen Ditmars, son John Ditmars( his wife Karen, their daughter Katie ), daughter Renee Inman (her husband Anthony, their daughter Kylie), daughter Michelle Ditmars(daughter Morgan). His siblings; Margaret Skahill, Linda Bonnes, Kay Fensholt and brothers William (Hanky) Ditmars and Edward Ditmars along with their extended families will continue to carry on his legacy. He also leaves behind his best friend and faithful companion (dog) Monty. With a special acknowledgement to our Maine family, whom are too numerous to list but are much loved and are certainly not forgotten.
