Carl L. Haglund, 79 of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin on September 3, 1929 and was a son of the late Gustav H. and Bergljoth Toraasen Haglund.

 

Mr. Haglund graduated from Hurlock High School class of 1946. On July 14, 1951 he married the former Andasia “Daisy” Hubbard. He served in the U.S. Army with the Army Security Agency from 1948 to 1950 serving in Japan. While serving in the military he was aboard a ship that went through a typhoon with 50 foot waves. He started working with his father as a carpenter and later owned and operated a building contracting business. On January 30, 1955, Mr. Haglund joined Zion United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. He sung in the senior choir for many years. He was an avid golfer for many years and had been club champion at Cambridge Country Club and Caroline Country Club and senior champion on two different occasions. He enjoyed playing bridge. He had been a Boy Scout Leader and a Webelos Leader for some years. He also helped coach swimming, golf and baseball. He was a former member of the Cambridge Country Club and the Talbot County YMCA and a member of the Caroline Country Club.

He is survived by his wife Daisy Haglund of Cambridge, a son Kurt Haglund of East New Market, two grandsons, a brother Victor Haglund of Jacksonville, FL, a sister Lillian Bell of Reids Grove and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter Ellen Haglund.
