Carl Homa, born February 23, 1941, in Detroit, MI, passed away at his home in Danby Township (Portland, MI) on April 23, 2012, following several months of health complications. Carl’s passion for the fine arts defined him, and his love of life charmed both those who knew him well and those he met incidentally. His poetry is his lasting legacy:

The truth is: there are no old people; just old bodies.

The truth is; there is no end; only modified beginnings.

There is no death; only tomorrow.

And memory; a figment of an ever-expanding prescience.

Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Army, honorably discharged in August 1965. He attended Michigan Technological University for one year prior to being drafted into the Army. Following his military service, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Oakland University and his Master’s in English Literature with minors in Philosophy and Art History from the University of Michigan. Carl was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Homa, and mother, Phyllis (Babee) Homa. He is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Rose, son Seth, daughter Cwen, brother Don, sister-in-law Lori, and nephew Christopher. Carl homeschooled his children, instilling within them the confidence to pursue their passions and dreams.
