Calvin “Cal” Sorenson, 83, of Argyle, MN, passed away on Sunday morning, August 23, 2020 at his home under the care of hospice.
Calvin Jens Sorenson was born on March 1, 1937, the son of Jens and Bessie (Yuergens) Sorenson. He was born and raised in Warren where he graduated from high school in 1955. On November 23, 1957, he married Bonnye Carlson at First Presbyterian Church in Moorhead, MN. They lived in several communities including Warren, Argyle, Bemidji, and on Maple Lake at Mentor, but have called Argyle home for most of their married life. Cal farmed, worked for Chandler Spray, drove a milk truck, worked at the Warren Sheaf and was a foreman for Witcher Construction from 1958 – 1976. In 1976, he established Sorenson Construction which is still being run by his son and grandson today.
He enjoyed hunting, watching wildlife and cooking. He was known for his potato soup and potato sausage.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Bonnye; children, Renee (Michael) Borowicz of Argyle, MN, David (Lisa) Sorenson of Argyle, MN and Audra Donarski (Patrick Schultz) of Laporte, MN; daughter-in-law, Judy (Edward) St. Germain of Argyle, MN; ten grandchildren, Jill (Josh) Perkerewicz, Jeena (Brennan) Laudal, Heather (Grant) Radermacher, Jennifer Borowicz (Jeremy Clow), Alison Wall (Tom Grzadzieleski), Dana (Brandon) Setterholm, Brandon (Betsy) Sorenson, Brooke (Austin) Grochowski, Nickolas Donarski (Natalie Fast) and Sophia Donarski; 14 great grandchildren, Jerzey, Jorja, and Jules Perkerewicz; Jayce, Taylor, Charlotte and Luke Laudal, Carter and Beckett Wall, Myla and Jack Setterholm, Blake and Boone Sorenson, Ness Donarski and baby Clow due in February, 2021. Sisters June Turnland of Scottsdale, AZ and Pam (John) Witkosky of Diamond, OH, sister-in-law Barbara Spicer of Grand Forks, ND, many nieces and nephews, and his dog Sammy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jens and Bessie Sorenson; son, Jay Sorenson, great-granddaughter, Josie Perkerewicz; brother, Jack Sorenson; sisters, Connie Brooks, DeLone Riopelle and Janice Hamrick; brothers-in law, Marvin Turnland, Burke Stewart, Jerry Brooks, Leonard Riopelle, Marwood Hamrick and Claude Spicer; and sister-in-law Patricia Sorenson.
