Bobbye was born on March 23, 1938, to Jewel and Claude Bates.  She was the elder sibling of three girls. She was fondly called Bobbye-Jewel by her friends and schoolmates in the Pisgah Community. She played basketball and graduated from Pisgah High School.  After high school, Bobbye attended business school.

Bobbye met Charles Hayes and they married in Canton, MS on June 27, 1974.  They shared 47 wonderful years before his death in April 2022.

Bobbye was a loving wife, mother, and adoring grandmother/great-grandmother.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly referred to her as Nana.  She enjoyed playing her organ and singing gospel music.  Bobbye was quite the seamstress and often made her clothes as a young woman.  She loved to craft wooden lawn decorations for the holidays and was a bit of a bird watcher.  Bobbye loved college football, rooting for Ole Miss when they played.  Bobbye loved traveling with Charles in their camper to places like Wyoming and Colorado.

Bobbye was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hayes, her parents; Claude and Jewel Bates; her sister, Katherine Elmer Bates, and her son, Henry ‘Thad’ Lea.

Bobbye is survived by her daughter, Lori Lea, her grandchildren Amanda Franklin (Eddie), Patrick Grissett (Jessica); and her great-grandchildren, Morgan Grissett, Avery Franklin, and Edgar Franklin, and her sister, Elizabeth Johnson.  Additionally, she is survived by her step-son, Chuck Hayes (Rose), granddaughter, Jennifer Rushing (Zach), and great-grandson, James.
