Bobby Joe Griffin, 86, of Meridian died peacefully on November 24, 2022, following a long illness.
Born on November 12, 1936, in Walnut Grove, Miss., he enlisted in the United States Marines in 1954, and was stationed in Okinawa , Japan, serving a total of 2 ½ years. He attended East Central Community College, where he played basketball. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church. A successful insurance salesman, he owned B.J. Griffin Insurance for 50 years. He enjoyed woodworking and passed the craft on to his grandsons.
Above all, he was tirelessly devoted to his family, especially his daughter, two grandsons, and their families. An endlessly kind and loving man, he helped many people through encouraging words and any material possessions he had to offer.
He is survived by daughter Tammy Jones (Bennie) of Start, La.; grandson Brice Jones (Meghan) of West Monroe, La.; grandson Devin Jones (Melyna) of Greenville, Ala.; great-grandchildren Hadley, Leighton, and Carter Jones and Braylynn, Sailor, Posie, Freya, and Stetson Jones; brother James Griffin (Bernice); special friend Bea Beasley; and several nieces and nephews.
Bobby Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Sally Griffin; sister Louise Griffin; wife Carleen Griffin; brothers D.R. Griffin, John L. Griffin, Eddie Griffin, Clarence Griffin; and sister Hazel Wright.
He will be remembered as a steady, constant, and loving father, Papaw, “Big Papaw,” and friend.
