Beverly Padgett, 83, of Virginia, passed away peacefully Friday, January 9, 2015, at the Essentia Health Virginia Care Center. She was born February 27, 1931, to John and Matilda Hanela in Virginia. She grew up in Pike Sandy, and graduated from Embarrass High School. Beverly moved out of “the sticks” to the “big city” of Virginia, where she met the love of her life, Jim Padgett. They were united in marriage on April 6, 1953. Beverly worked at the Cluett-Peabody Shirt Factory, before becoming a full time homemaker. Beverly not only raised her own six children, but also took great pride in the fact that she was able to influence the lives of other children that she babysat for regularly. She cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. She was known to always have a camera in her hand, capturing album after album (not just picture after picture) of special moments. She was proud of her Finnish heritage, full of “Sisu,” and known to never pass up a sauna. Beverly loved rummage sales, and was out of the house bright and early every Saturday to start her hunt. She was an avid Vikings and Twins fan, always remaining faithful, regardless of their records. Beverly was a kind, compassionate, strong and appreciative woman who lived a simple, but full life. She will be deeply missed by many.
Beverly is survived by son: Mark (Lisa) Padgett of Eden Prairie; daughters: Marcie Padgett (Michael Barnett) of Cottage Grove, Maureen Padgett of Virginia, Melisa Padgett-Branch (Larry Branch) of Valdosta, GA, and Marla Padgett of Eveleth; grandchildren: Dylan Padgett, Aaron Padgett, Whitney Padgett, Jesse Beam, and Mayson Branch; sister: Shirley Korpela; sister-in-law: Dorothy Susnik; special cousin: Norma Bodovinac; extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Padgett; her daughter, Melanie Beresford; her parents, John and Matilda Hanela; eight brothers and two sisters.
