Betty was born on August 20, 1923 on the estate of Thomas Johnson, first elected governor of the State of Maryland. She grew up in Elkins, West Virginia, where she met the love of her life, Dr. Robert C. Wingfield. Betty was a graduate of Elkins High School, Potomac State, and Thomas Jefferson University. Betty and Bob eventually settled in Laurel, Maryland. Betty was known for being a humble, gracious, and one-of-a-kind lady who was devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed her time with friends playing bridge, golfing, and gardening. She was an active member of the Snow Hill Garden Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, and was very involved with her community.
