Betty (Fox) Cook
Age 79, passed away unexpectedly on April 15, 2008 surrounded by the love of her family. Betty was a lifelong resident of Ionia. She was born on February 7, 1929 in Ionia. On her birthday in 1948, she married Joseph John Fox, Jr. They raised 2 children, John Joseph Fox and Connie (John) Heppe. Her two grandchildren, Kimberly (Gary) Goodemoot and Christopher (Christa) Heppe loved her and will miss her greatly. She adored her four great grandsons, Travis and Benjamin Goodemoot and Curtis and Cameron Heppe. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Heath; her mother, Katherine Nelson; her husband, Joe; a sister, Carmon Sawtell and her son, John. Betty ran a ceramic shop out of her home for many years. She was well-known for the thousands of Easter eggs and Christmas trees she made. She worked at Ionia County Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide and ward secretary, and later at a local doctor’s office. In her later years, she worked for Ionia County National Bank. She was always ready for a boat ride or a quick game of cards. She loved Bingo and she was an avid reader. She had a large book collection, and was always willing to lend a book. Betty was a great collector with many interests, including newspaper clippings, joker cards, stamps and coins. She also donated many pairs of hand-knitted hats and mittens to several elementary school children in Ionia. To her family, she was the ultimate list-maker, and she could always be counted on to remember details and facts.
