Betty Jean Moreland passed away July 23, 2008 in St. James, Missouri. She was 74 years, 10 months and 2 days of age. She was born September 19, 1933 at Light, Missouri to her parents: Arthur A. and Nancy (Pryor) Moreland.
A graduate of John F. Hodge High School, Class of 1951, Betty was one of the lead cheerleaders for the Tigers Basketball Team. She participated in playing baseball, bowling, fishing and piloting an airplane- – – she loved the thrill of flying …..”the beauty of the landscape below was worth every bit of the altitude.”
She was a self-sufficient, independent single woman with a keen business sense and a real zest for life. She “pinched pennies” , paid cash for everything including a Mercedes Diesel fueled car she bought while still very young. Like her mother and uncle Jim, she believed in staying out of debt, saving money and always paying cash. She loved her animals, dogs, wild deer, turkeys, and cattle.
Betty was a Christian, active Republican, and a member of the National Society of the Magna Charta Dames and Barons.
She is survived by her older sister, Isabelle Moreland Strong, and younger sister, Shirley Moreland Willy; nieces: Nancy Torrez Landa, Suzie Strong Burgess, Vickie Willy Quarberg, Joan Willy Wantland, Elizabeth Willy Smith, Martha Willy, and three nephews; Monte Willy, Bill Strong, and Timothy Torrez. Wife of Timothy, Troy Torrez and Nancy Torrez Landa were Betty’s companions in service toward the end of her life.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents: Arthur A. and Nancy (Pryor) Moreland and one sister: Hellin Monier, February, 2007.
Her family bid her Farewell, their beloved sister and aunt.
