Betty J. Engelby 1/24/1931 – 1/17/2022
Betty Jean (Schwab) Engelby was born January 24, 1931 in Winnebago, MN. The oldest of seven children born to Fred and Gladys Schwab.
On December 11, 1931 Betty married Robert Engelby and together they raised six children. Arnold Engelby of Coon Rapids, MN, Judith Mussara of San Diego, Ca, Terry (Martha) Engelby of Jordan, MN, Paula Engelby of Maplewood, MN, Steven (Carole) Engelby of Becker, MN, and Susan Engelby of Mankato, MN. When their family was young, they lived in Blue Earth, MN where she and Bob had an egg business. Later the family moved to Mankato where Bob was employed by Norther Beverages until he retired, and Betty was employed at Brett’s Department Store as a “Lancombe Paris” sales associate until her retirement. Throughout her adult life Betty enjoyed traveling to tropical locations, entertaining family and friends in her home, and collecting curios from trips, as well as from antique shops.
Betty is survived by her six children; Arnold, Judith, Terry, Paula, Steven and Susan. Two daughters-in-law; Carole and Martha. Two brothers; Roger Schwab of Delavin, MN and Harland Schwab of Grand Marais, MN. One sister; Marian Grotzinger of Fairmont, MN, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Gladys and Fred Schwab, her husband, Robert Engelby, sisters; Lois Yeager, Phyllis Kragness, and Sheryl Schwab. Her companion; Donald Stefanske, and granddaughter, Laura Engelby.
The family of Betty Engelby deeply appreciate the care and attention of the staff at Kingsway these past years who have given her wonderful experiences that enriched her days, and maintained her in good health and spirit for so long.
