Bess passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017 at LifeCare Roseau Manor.
Bess Halverson was born on August 8, 1918, in Park Falls, WI, to Daisy and Charles Slegal. She attended high school in Park Falls, WI, and earned her LPN degree in Superior, WI. Bess married Lorman Halverson on March 17, 1937, in Wisconsin, and then moved to Grafton, ND, where they had a daughter in 1941, and a son in 1949. They lived in Red Lake Falls, MN, from 1948 to 1960, and then moved to Roseau where they raised their two children.
Bess worked as a nurse until her retirement at the age of 65. After retirement she and Lorman enjoyed traveling to Tucson, AZ, and volunteering for the Salvation Army and the Red Cross, and doing missionary work through the Methodist Church.
Bess enjoyed friends and family.
She is survived by her children; Betty (Mavin) Anderson and Jack (Robyn) Halverson, grandchildren Jean (Troy) Mason, Joy (Alan) Ballbach, Robin (Russ) Mason, Beaudy Mason, Merribeth (Bill) Burch, Rachel Halverson, Amanda Osborne, and Julie Smith, great-grandchildren Becky (Kevin) Hald, Renae (Darrin) Howe, Adam (Tonia) McRunnel, Zack Storrs, Kodie Ziska, Kassandra Ziska, Hunter Ziska, Grace Smith, Evan Smith, Logan Osborn, Grant Osborne, Jazlyn McRunnel, Freyja McRunnel, Ian Brubaker, Shane Brubaker, Grayson McRunnel, Nash Ziska, and Paige Ziska.
Bess was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Daisy Slegal, husband Lorman, brothers Charles, Clyde, Jack and Ben Slegal.
