Bertel Edward Serfes Sr. 69 passed away on April 11, 2014. He was born in Yarmouth Maine, formerly of Falmouth Maine, a son of Louis and Mary Serfes. He was the youngest of 5 children and attended Falmouth schools. He joined the United States Marine Corps. in 1962, after 2 1/2 tours in Vietnam he was honorably discharged in 1970. Upon returning home he joined the Portland Police dept. and served 6 years until 1976.
He then reloctated with his wife Carmen Serfes and their 3 children to Havelock NC. where he was a police officer for the Havlock Police dept. Until 1980.
He returned to Maine with his family and was employed at the South Windham Correctioinal facility as a corrections officer for a term of 3 years. He then worked for the United States Postal Service until the time of his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Carmen of 47 wonderful years, 2 children Bertel Edward Serfes Jr. and Miriam Lee Serfes and his predeceased daughter Mary Eloise Serfes.
He has 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
