Bernice E. Thompson, age 91, of Virginia and formerly of Ely and Duluth died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Edgewood Vista Memory Care in Virginia. She was born September 21, 1923 in Clarion, IA, the daughter of Otto and Anna (Hannasch) Munn. She graduated from high school and went on to attend the University of Dakota where she received a Food Service Degree. She was united in marriage to Harold Thompson in 1949 in Iowa.
Bernice and Harold owned and operated the Timber Trail Resort in Ely. She also worked as a Food Service Supervisor for Vertin’s in Ely, the Ely Bloomenson Hospital, and St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. She was a member of St. Mary’s Auxiliary, VFW Post # 137 Auxiliary, and the West Duluth Women’s Club. She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Bernice is survived by three children: Diane Zach or of Duluth, Bonnie Rasmusson of Virginia, and Doug Thompson of Lakeville, MN; seven grandchildren: Terry Moody of Florida, Darwin (Kim) Rasmusson of Virginia, Darlene (Phillip) Kastor of Iron Junction, MN, Dwight Rasmusson of Lake Vermilion, Darrell (Crystal) Rasmusson of Embarrass, MN, Dan (Mary) Rasmusson of Aurora, MN, and Bob (Shanda) Rasmusson of Anamosa, IA; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Harold in 1983; three sisters; one brother; a son-in-law: Delmon Rasmusson; and a daughter-in-law: Cheryl Thompson.
