Bernard Bouck, 76, of Warren, MN formerly of Dickinson, ND, died on the Feast of All Souls, Wednesday, November 2, 2022, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Bernard (pronounced the Irish way, “Ber-nerd”) was born on August 9, 1946, in Utica, NY to Everett and Helene (Corrigan) Bouck. He was always independent and highly intelligent. His travels in his “hippie” years led him to live off the land in Clearbrook, MN. While working in Grand Forks, ND, he met a young woman, Cynthia Krpoun, and his life changed forever.

Bernard and Cindy were married on August 6, 1976, and moved to Dickinson, ND shortly thereafter, where Bernard started his company “The Village Carpenter” and built homes during the oil boom. After building over 120 homes, he again went into business for himself, as a long haul truck driver. Bernie (as he was now known) enjoyed the freedom of being his own boss, as he’d never tolerated being told what to do. Quiet time by himself was easy to come by while working; though it contrasted sharply with his home life and seven kids. While at home Bernie enjoyed woodworking, cooking, making yogurt, and baking bread. In 2013, after all seven of their kids had left home, Bernard and Cindy moved to Warren, where they could live near family while Bernard received extra care following a stroke he’d had in 2009.

Blessed with the gift of a near-photographic memory, Bernard appreciated learning all sorts of things, listening to classical music, and getting riled up about politics. He was anything but quiet and always unique, with a soft spot for his grandchildren:
He will be greatly missed.

Bernard is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cindy; children, Sr. Kateri Bouck, Jessica (Mike) Graulich, Nicholas Bouck, Andrea Bouck, Zachary (Jessi) Bouck, Medora (Shandon) Decker, and Fr. Dominic Bouck; eleven grandchildren, Isaac, Gabriel, Oliver, Hazel, Eleanor, Samson, Daisy, Katie, Claire, Timothy, and Lucy; siblings, Ellen (Doug) Jones and David Bouck; and mother-in-law, Mae Krpoun.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helene “Babe” and Mary; sister-in-law, Gayle Bouck; a grandchild; and father-in-law, Al Krpoun.
