Bernard Joseph “Barney” Ranger, age 61, longtime resident of the Nashwauk area, died Thursday, September 17, 2009 at home. He was born October 9, 1947 in Santa Cruz, CA, the son of Joseph A. and Joyce K. (Askim) Ranger. On October 19, 1968 he married Kay Michelle Poirier at Nashwauk Lutheran Church.
Barney was employed as a maintenance mechanic at Butler Taconite and National Steel. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, and the American Legion. He was a Vietnam Veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years: Kay; his children: Curtis (Tracy) Ranger of Hibbing, and Misty (Joseph) Lind of Mt. Iron; grandchildren: Shelbi Ranger, Riley Lind, Cody Ranger, and Madison Lind; siblings: Mary (Del) Inkman of Nashwauk, Linnea (Allan) Poach of Circle Pines, Grace (William) Swanson of Hibbing, Ellen (Ron Kampf) Ranger of Nashwauk, Martin (Kim) Ranger of North Branch, and Janice (Brian) Miles of Chisago City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and twin sons.
