Beatrice Eileen Schirmer of Easton, Maryland, died December 27, 2017 at the age of 96.

Born March 6, 1921, in Manchester, Md., she was the only child of Albert Valentine Warehime and Catherine Estella Trump. After attending school in Manchester, she worked in Baltimore at B & O Railroad, and for Fidelity and Guaranty Fire Corporation, where she met her future husband, Howard Gibbons Schirmer. Later she worked for Baltimore Radio Station WCAO in program development. In 1945, upon the return of her fiancé from Europe, she and Staff Sergeant Schirmer were married at St. William’s Chapel in Baltimore. In 1953 they moved to Easton, and resided there for ten years, where Mr. Schirmer was the office manager for the Howard N. German Insurance Agency. He also wrote the “Let’s Go Fishing” column for the Star Democrat. There were later residences in Jacksonville and West Palm Beach, Florida. While in West Palm Beach, Bea devoted much of her time to working with volunteer groups. For five years she served as a docent at the Henry Morrison Flagler mansion, “Whitehall,” in Palm Beach. Because of her great concern for neglected and abused animals, she helped to organize a thrift shop to benefit this cause under the auspices of Animal Birth Control, Inc.

She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Leigh Sands, of Denton, Md.
