Avis Honl of Roseau passed away late Sunday evening at Sheltering Oaks Manor in Roseau. She was 94 years old.
Avis Honl, the daughter of Samuel and Ida (Peterson) Satre was born on April 23, 1912 in Claire City, South Dakota. Avis graduated from Clair City High School in 1930. She worked in Clair City for a short time before moving to Wausau, Wisconsin where she worked in a bakery and met Arnold Honl. They were married on February 6, 1937. She and Arnold operated a bakery in Wahpeton, ND for four years before moving to Roseau in 1941. They owned Honl’s Bakery for more than 30 years. Avis worked in the bakery with Arnold. After retiring in 1972 she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and making patchwork quilts and afghans for her family.
Avis is survived by her children, James (Carolyn) of Anderson, SC, Paul (Linda) of La Center, WA, Charles (Renae) of Westville, IN, Robert (Elaine) of Bemidji, MN, Peter (Jean) of Roseau, MN and Kathy (Frank) Jaenicke of Roseau; grandchildren Tim, Mike, David, Ryan, Kent, John, Jeremy, and Nancy Honl, and Rachel Hagen, and also 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Arnold, grandson Jerome Honl, her parents, Samuel and Ida, and siblings Melvin, Ella,Clarence, Roy, Alma, Mearl, Emma, Aaron, Effie, and Leeda
