Audrey Arlene Korpi Schweiger of Meadowlands died Friday, July 1, 2016, at The Hummingbird in Meadowlands.
Audrey was born October 10, 1948, on her brother’s (Stanley) birthday, in Duluth the daughter of Bruno and Ailie (Saralampi) Korpi. She grew up in Melrude, MN, and graduated from Cotton High School. She attended Duluth Business University and had worked at the Butler Maternity Hospital in Cloquet. She had also worked as a postmistress in the Payne, MN, and Meadowlands post offices.
Audrey was united in marriage to John C. Schweiger on June 26, 1948, and celebrated 53 years of marriage before his death in 2002. Together they raised three children. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Meadowlands as well as the women’s church organization, WELCA, having served in the past as president. She was an incredible knitter; enjoyed reading, baking, and attending her children and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.
Audrey is survived by her children: Diana L (John “Jay” Berglund) Schweiger, Hermantown, Gregory J. (Sheila) Schweiger, Hibbing, and Beverly J Schweiger, New Brighton, MN; five grandchildren: Aaron (Shelley) Godnai, Brian (Teri) Schweiger, Jason Godnai, Jeremy Schweiger, and Tanya Schweiger; five great-grandchildren: Katie, Imijyn, Henley, Nick, Parker, and Grayson; sister: Marjory Desmarais, Maitland, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: John; brothers: Stanley Korpi and Clarence (“Hartley”) Korpi; sisters: Dorothy O’Brien, Shirley Miller, and infant sister: Beverly Joanne.
