Anne Scheitlin Johnson passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2021, after a courageous and hard fought battle with breast cancer. She was born March 7, 1960, in Elgin, Illinois to Glenn and Mary Louise Scheitlin. Growing up, she was an accomplished gymnast and developed an unparalleled dedication to others.
After graduating from Florida Southern College with a degree in Political Science, Anne attended Kent College of Law in Chicago where she met her husband, Tim. They recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in June.
Anne’s strong commitment in caring for others drove her to advocate for social justice in all realms, including tutoring at a local elementary school, teaching ESL classes in Minneapolis, and forming both a neighborhood and a church group to advocate for racial equity. Following her earlier battles with cancer, she started a foundation that grants scholarships to college students impacted by cancer.
Anne loved to travel and spend time with family near the water and in nature in both the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Longboat Key, Florida. She loved her family fiercely and will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. Her wit, strength, and faith carried her through her final battle with cancer. She is predeceased by her father Glenn and biological mother Mary Louise and survived by her husband Tim, daughters Leah (24) and Libby (22), mother Sandy Armstrong and brother David Scheitlin.
